Senior IPS officer Alok Kumar Verma at present took charge as the new Commissioner of Delhi Police at a time it is scuffling with mounting criticism over dealing with of the JNU row.

Mr Verma succeeds BS Bassi who used to be at loggerheads with the AAP govt on a variety of disorders within the final one 12 months.

Mr Verma, a 1979 batch IPS officer of the AGMUT (Arunachal Pradesh-Goa-Mizoram and Union Territory) cadre, used to be serving because the Director general of Tihar penal complex.

He assumes charge of Delhi Police when it is battling mounting criticism over the handling of the JNU row.

Mr Verma, who had joined as DG of Tihar on August 6, 2014, after serving as targeted Commissioner of Police (Administration), is set to retire after 17 months.

He served Delhi Police in quantity of positions, including Deputy Commissioner of Police, South District, Joint Commissioner of the Crime branch, Joint Commissioner of Police, New Delhi range, certain CP (Intelligence) and designated
CP, Vigilance.

He had served as the Inspector basic of Police in Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Director basic of Police (DGP) of Puducherry.

On his retirement, Mr Bassi was given a farewell on the Police Headquarters in these days.
