Australia makes 260 in 20 overs against Srilanka! It was a monstrosity! Cricket Australia registered the highest T20 score with a score of 263 to break the record of 260 runs held by Sri Lanka since 2007. Lanka, incidentally, were on the receiving end of the mauling at Pallekele with Glenn Maxwell dismantling the Sri Lankan attack to all parts of the park and remaining unbeaten on 145 at the end. The Tigers had scored 260 against Kenya at Johannesburg. This comes a week after West Indies also came within touching distance of breaking the record but fell short in the final stages of the match to post 245 against Indies in the first T20I in Florida. In the process, Australia also improved on their highest T20 score of 248 against England in 2013 at Southampton. Maxwell and Travis Head (45) put together 109 runs for the third wicket to leave Sri Lanka with little room to breathe and barring Dhananjaya de Silva, all other bowlers went for more than 10 runs an over. Kasun Rajitha bore the worst of the mauling as he went for 46 runs in three overs at an economy rate of 15.33. After the first ten overs, Australia were 110/1 with David Warner (28) the only player back in the hut. Playing alongside Usman Khawaja, Maxwell continued his momentum. Between the 10th and the 15th over, Australia scored 68 runs and that was only increased in the final five to 75 runs. This is the second time in two weeks that the highest score record has been broken in limited overs cricket with England registering a score of 444 in an ODI against Pakistan at Trent Bridge.
