Axar Patel has been named in the India squad on Wednesday to replace Ravindra Jadeja for the third Test against Sri Lanka at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium.
Ravindra Jadeja was suspended for throwing the ball at Malinga Pushpakkumar during the second Test in Colombo. The ground umpires on the field considered dangerous, after which the world number one bowler was fined in the test.
Axar Patel has been playing for India A in the tri-nation series in South Africa. He has still not played a Test match.
Chairman of selectors MSK Prasad is currently in Pallekele for the third Test and BCCI send out a release on Wednesday morning which read: “The All-India Senior Selection Committee on Tuesday named Axar Patel as the replacement for Ravindra Jadeja in the team for the 3rd Test, which starts from August 12, 2017, at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium.
Jadeja admitted the offense and accepted the sanction proposed by Richie Richardson of the Emirates Elite Panel of ICC Match Referees and, as such, there was no need for a formal hearing.
Axar Patel the Left-arm spinner, has played 30 One-Day Internationals and seven Twenty20 Internationals but is now in line for his debut Test if he is picked for the match in Kandy.
