The Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB) declared intermediate arts (IA) or Class 12 results on Saturday. Only 56.73% of the students passed the examinations this year as compared to 86.47% last year. 56.85% girls and 56.73% boys passed the exam while results of 1,838 students are pending. Rubi Ray from Vaishali topped in exams with 88.8%.

The girls students outperformed boys in the intermediate arts (IA) examination conducted by Bihar school examination board (BSEB), the results of which were announced in Patna.

However, similar to the Intermediate science (ISc) and commerce (ICom), the overall pass percentage of results of IA has witnessed a sharp decline. Only 56.73% of the students passed the examination this year, as compared to 86.47% last year.

Over the steep fall in pass percentage, BSEB chairman Lalkeshwar Prasad Singh said the dip in overall results was attributed to a serious curb on malpractices for which the state had recently earned a bad image last year.

Over 2,89,881 out of 5,10,903 students passed the examination, of which 11.81% of the students secured the first division. About 37.63% students got the second division, while 7.09% passed in the third division in marks.

A total of 2.41 lakh boys and 3.06 lakh girls had appeared in the IA examination. About 56.85% girls and 56.73% boys passed the examination, while results of 1,838 students have been kept pending.

The BSEB Class 12 arts top position is secured by Rubi Ray of VR College, Kiratpur (Vaishali), who  topped the chart by obtaining 444 out of 500 marks or 88.8%

The BSEB also announced results of IA (vocational course), in which 1,646 students took the examination. About 62.02% students, comprising 55.1% boys and 44.89% girls, passed the exams.
