Aamir Khan‘s Dangal is all set to shatter the actor’s existing box-office records. While PK had raked in a whopping Rs 26.63 crore on its opening day, Dangal surpassed even that and grossed Rs 29.78 crore.

The real-life story of Haryanvi wrestler Mahavir Singh Phogat and his struggle to train his daughters Babita Kumari and Geeta Phogat to make them world-class wrestlers had many takers, with advance booking off the charts. The unanimous positive verdict has also converted into ticket sales, with many critics and celebrities hailing the film as Aamir’s best.

As expected, there was curiosity whether Dangal will be able to surpass the box office collections of Salman Khan‘s Sultan, which was also based on wrestling. Sultan, which hit the screens on July 6, and raked in a whopping Rs 36.54 on the first day. Since then, Sultan has grossed Rs 500 crore at the box office.

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh records a smashing opening for Dangal in the overseas market.
