Indian squash ace Dipika Pallikal crashed out of the Women’s world squash championship in Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday losing in her first round match to the World No. 10 Annie Au, 8-11, 9-11, 11-6, 11-6, 7-11. In a closely contested match that lasted for 1 hour 3 minutes, Dipika fought back from two games down against Au but lost the decider 11-7.
Pallikal had been a quarter-finalist at the Women’s World Squash Championship in 2011.Au, who is the Hong Kong national champion built an early momentum by clinching the first game 11-8. In the second game to she fought back Dipika to come back from 4-6 down and taking the second game as well.
However, Pallikal currently ranked 19th refused to bow down without a fight. With an array of forehand winners, the former World No. 10 made a strong comeback riding on her experience and clinched the third and the fourth games. But it was the decider in which Au managed to hold on to a slender lead she managed to extract early on.
With Dipika packing her bags, the focus will now be on Joshna Chinappa here on. She plays Laura Massaro, the top seed, in the second round on Wednesday.
