Were you one of the thousands that ordered the Freedom 251? If yes, then hey! Good news for you! The company has stated that delivery of the first batch of the Freedom 251 phones will begin this May. The press coverage and reporting regarding the company have been very limited ever since the dust around the whole news settled, but apparently, that was deliberate as the company wanted to keep things quiet to avoid any more controversy. The government has already promised to take action if Ringing Bells fails to deliver the phone to the 30,000 customers who paid up.

The Freedom 251 even though marred with controversy, was able to start the race in a new category of mobile phones altogether—the sub-1000, i.e. the phone that costs less than what a date with your crush would. In today’s date of phones that cost an arm and a leg, the company at least had this right that they could get people to buy what it was selling solely on the shock value. Many who booked the phone including yours truly, did so only to see what such a cheap phone looks like and also, because it was only Rs.251 (shipping not included), so what the heck?

Just this week, another smartphone that catches your fancy because of nothing else but its price has made it to the news. The X1, created by a company called Doss Multimedia Private Limited in Durgapura, Jaipur, is being marketed just like the Freedom 251. One needs to pre-order the phone priced at Rs.888 on the company website that was surprisingly registered only hours ago! The phone promises specs of a 4-inch IPS display, a 1.3GHz dual-core Cortex A7 chipset, 1GB RAM and 4GB of internal memory (expandable to 32GB), etc. but in the era of scams, buyers beware!
