Did you know — Wimbledon is the oldest tennis tournament in the world. Yes, you heard this right. As we know Wimbledon is about to start from July 3, 2017, Google honored Wimbledon’s 140 years completion with its new doodle. The prominent tournament is starting from today and will run until July 15.

Also, the Google’s doodle is designed in Wimbledon’s traditional colors of purple & green, and an animated GIF of two white tennis racquets — the dress code — hitting a ball back and forth. After getting a click on the doodle, Google will take you to the search page which has detailed about a match being played, time and the court number.

However, Google is not the first site to honored the Wimbledon, even Twitter has introduced special emojis for fans using Wimbledon-specific Hashtags. See what the Twitter did after the completion of Wimbledon’s 140 years.

It all started from 1877 at the All England Croquet and Lawn Tennis Club with 22 participants — men, as women weren’t allowed — and overall audiences were just 200.

But presently, there are over 700 participants in the tournament, around 500,000 spectators, and over 10 million viewers in the world. This year’s winners, in men and women categories will get $2.84 million (2.2 million pounds) each — that has increased 200,000 pounds compared to last year.

Defending champion Andy Murray will not just have to face young guns — as old guns are back — Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal. While the three-times Wimbledon champion, Novak Djokovic, too, in a list.

And renowned stars like Maria Sharapova and Serena Williams are missing out the tournament this year.
