The Gujarat High Court approved permanent bail to three of the close aides of Patidar agitation leader Hardik Patel on Thursday, in a treason case, while two were freed by the Surat Court. The five associates include Dinesh Bambhania, Ketan Patel, Chirag Patel, Vipul Desai and Chirag Desai.

The high court, on the other hand, adjourned the hearing of Hardik Patel’s bail till May, despite his counsel informed the high court that the Patidar Animal Andolan Samiti (PAAS) convener Hardik Patel will continue the agitation in a democratic manner.

PAAS members Dinesh Bambhania, Ketan Patel and Chirag Patel, were granted bail by the high court after they gave an undertaking that they will not participate in the agitation any further and will not violate law and order situation.

On granting the bail to these three accused, the state government informed the court that it does not have any objection if they have given the undertaking on not to repeat the offence.

The high court, while granting the bail, told the accused that they cannot leave their respective district limits for coming six months and they have to mark presence at the concerned police station regularly. The court added that each of them will also have to obtain a bail bond of Rs 25,000.

Hardik Patel and three PAAS members were detained by the Ahmedabad crime branch in October in 2015 on charges of ‘treason and treason’.

The Surat Court which granted bail to Vipul Desai and Chirag Desai also asked both for a bail bond of Rs 25,000 each and asked them to surrender their passports in court and not to leave Gujarat.
