Indian men’s Hockey team has been put in a tough group in the Rio Olympics. India is in the pool B with defending champions Germany, European champions Netherlands and Pan-American Games champions Argentina.
India will begin the campaign against Ireland, who have qualified for the first-time. The real test for Indian men will begin with clashes with Germany, Argentina, and the Netherlands on August 8, 9 and 11 respectively.
Teams in Pool A are Australia, Great Britain, Belgium, New Zealand, Spain, and Brazil.
The top four teams from each pool will qualify for the knock-out stage, beginning August 14.
On the other hand, Indian women are in a group that has tough opponents like Argentina and Australia. The women’s hockey team has qualified for the Olympics after 36 years. Their first game will be against Japan on the August 7. Next, they will face Great Britain (August 8), Australia (August 10), USA (August 11) and Argentina (August 13).
