Amid raging debate over the choice of Bollywood superstar Salman Khan as India’s goodwill ambassador for Rio Olympics, the Indian Olympic Association has approached cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar and oscar-winning music composer A R Rahman, Olympic gold winner Abhinav Bindra for the post.

IOA secretary general Rajeev Mehta had earlier said in a statement that Khan is not going to be the sole face of the Indian Olympics contingent, adding they are in talks with two other big names in music and cricket industry to spread Olympic sports.


“Mr. Salman Khan is only being appointed from Bollywood segment and we are in talks with two other big names in music and cricket,” he said earlier this week.


Salman’s appointment as goodwill ambassador had kicked up a storm last week when star wrestler Yogeshwar Dutt and sprint legend Milkha Singh questioned the move even though the IOA and some other athletes backed the decision.


Salman, who is playing the role of a wrestler in his upcoming film ‘Sultan’, was named goodwill ambassador by the in the presence of star woman boxer M C Mary Kom, hockey captain Sardar Singh, and shooter Apurvi Chandela, among others.


Yogeshwar Dutt who had criticised IOA for appointing Salman as Goodwill Ambassador shared his happiness over their decision to approach “a great player like Sachin”.
