The Himachal Pradesh High Court on Thursday issued a notice to Congress president Sonia Gandhi’s daughter Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, in association with a land deal in Shimla and asked her to respond to it within four weeks. The move came after an RTI petition was filed demanding information over the Gandhi family’s properties.

The court’s notice asked Priyanka Gandhi to provide information in a matter related to the purchase of a land in Shimla. Gandhi had filed a writ petition in the court challenging the decision of Himachal Pradesh State Information Commission directing the district authorities to provide information about her land.

The RTI activist Dev Ashish Bhatacharya had filed an application in the court along with documents received by him under RTI including information about the residence of Priyanka Gandhi Vadra besides Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi.

This year in January, the high court had admitted the writ petition filed by Priyanka Gandhi Vadra for a final hearing into the matter.  Gandhi had filed the petition challenging the order passed by State Information Commission on June 29 last year, whereby the commission had directed the deputy commissioner and ADM Shimla to supply the information within 10 days to RTI activist Bhattacharya related to the purchase of land in Shimla by Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.

On July 7, 2015, the court had stayed the June 29 order of State Information Commission by observing that petitioner has carved out a prima facie case for grant of interim relief.

On July 2, 2014, Dev Ashish Bhattacharya had filed the RTI before Shimla deputy commissioner demanding information including file notings, copies of the sale deeds, relaxations being given and land status of Priyanka as on date. But the information provided was being contested on grounds that revealing the information may compromise the security of Priyanka.
