Uttar Pradesh police have registered an FIR against Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati in Hathras, after a poster depicting the BSP chief as goddess Kali holding chopped head of Union government’s Human Resource Development (HRD) Minister Smriti Irani along with tiny form of Prime Minister Narendra Modi plus Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat.

In the poster, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been shown begging for forgiveness from Mayawati and assuring no change in the job reservations for the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes.

The poster surfaced on Sunday at BR Ambedkar ‘shobha yatra’ which was taken out to mark the 125th birth anniversary of Ambedkar. The hoardings were put up by the district level leaders of BSP, Shilpi and Dhruv Singh Kardam.

The circle officer Narendra Dev said the event was organised by Om Prakash while the poster was brought by Kardam who have been named in the FIR. The posters were removed soon after information was given to the police.

State BJP spokesperson Vijay Bahadur Pathak said “the poster depicts the mental bankruptcy of BSP chief Mayawati. Our workers showed admirable restraint despite provocation”.

Police have charged the accused under Section 295A of the Indian Penal Code stating deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs, as per the complaint filed by the BJP district president Ramvir Singh.

Recently, UP BJP President Keshav Maurya was also portrayed as lord Krishna with a ‘Sudarshan Chakra’ in one hand and opposition leaders including Mayawati, Akhilesh and Rahul Gandhi as Kauravas in the poster, ahead of Maurya’s visit to Varanasi. However, he denied any connection with the poster.
