Monsoon Session to be from July 18 to Aug 12 WHO'S HOT Union parliamentary affairs minister Venkaiah Naidu said the Monsoon Session will be held from July 18 to August 12, according to ANI. The BJP government is confident the Goods and Services Tax Bill will be tabled and passed in this session. There are 45 bills pending in the Rajya Sabha and 5 in the Lok Sabha. Apart from the controversial GST Bill, the Whistle Blowers Protection (Amendment) Bill, 2015, is also pending in the Upper House. In the Lok Sabha, one crucial bill is the Consumer Protection Bill 2015 and the Benami Transactions (Prohibition) Amendment Bill, 2015. Apart from this there are two ordinances which the government will look to replace, the Enemy Property Act and the National Eligibility-cum Entrance Test (NEET). “We are in favour of passing the GST bill in the Monsoon Session. Will speak to all parties, even if it requires personal talks,” Naidu said, “Three ordinances are also pending, these will also be brought up in the session.” Opposition parties are likely to raise a number of issues during this session. TMC leaders have already said they will protest the recent FDI norms, which allow inflows into key sectors including defence, civil aviation and pharmaceuticals. Apart from this, India’s denial into the Nuclear Suppliers Group and Reserve Bank of India Raghuram Rajan’s decision to go back to academics following the end of his tenure in September will also be raised.
