Motorola, a brand owned by Lenovo, on Thursday launched the Moto Z2 Play in India. The company has brought this phone to India within days of global launch, hinting that it sees the big potential for a premium and yet affordable phone in India. The Moto Z2 Play uses a Qualcomm Snapdragon 626 processor, has a big battery and supports the Moto Mods through which more functionality can be added to it. The phone will go on sale soon – pre-registration is open – at a price of Rs 27,999. The phone is Flipkart-exclusive as far as online is concerned w=but will also be available in offline stores.

In many ways, the Moto Z2 Play is Motorola’s one of the most balanced phones in almost a year. It has good hardware inside its metal body and its design is good enough to make it a part of the phone lineup that has devices like the Galaxy A5 and OnePlus 3.

The Moto Z2 Play uses Snapdragon 626 processor, which is 8-core CPU with a top speed of 2.2GHz. The phone is going to be available in India one variant: 4GB RAM and 64GB storage. The phone comes with a 5.5-inch screen, which uses Super AMOLED panel and has FullHD (1080P) resolution. One particularly interesting bit about the Moto Z2 Play is its main camera. This camera uses a 12-megapixel image sensor that has the pixel size of 1.4um. Although it is not yet clear which is this image sensor but the specifications point towards the same sensor that is there inside the Moto G5 Plus. Like the G5 Plus, the Moto Z2 Play too has an F1.7 lens. When we reviewed the G5 Plus we found its camera to be a fantastic performer in good light. It is possible that Z2 Play will either match or surpass the G5 Plus. On the front, the phone has a 5-megaixel camera.

Just like its predecessor the Moto Z Play, the Moto Z2 Play too comes with a decently sized battery. Inside its metal body, it packs in a 3000 mAh battery.

Talking of the metal body, the Z2 Play is a quite sleek phone with premium looks. The curves are classic Motorola, and somewhat similar to what we saw earlier on the Z Play but the new Z2 Play is just 6mm thick and weighs just 145 grams which are very impressive for a phone with a 5.5-inch screen. The Z2 Plus has a fingerprint sensor on the front and the back the phone has the metal pins through which Moto Mods can be attached to it. It also comes with Type C connector. Also, the support for microSD card has been provided.

Like other Motorola phones, the Z2 Play too uses an almost unmodified version of Android. It is powered by Android Nougat 7.1, which is the latest version of Android. The Z2 Play competes with the phones like the OnePlus 3 and Samsung Galaxy A5 in the market.
