International Women’s Day is a worldwide event that celebrates women’s achievements – from the political to the social – while calling for gender equality. It has been observed since the early 1900s and is now recognised each year on March 8.

An endearing new Google Doodle debuted on Tuesday (March 8) to celebrate International Women’s Day.

Unlike most Doodles, which feature an interactive animation, the one for International Women’s Day features a video where women from all over the world say what they hoped to do to make a difference in the world.

Using the hashtag #OneDayIWill, a number of women shared their aspirations. From playing in the major leagues to becoming an astronaut to becoming a poet, each goal gave a glimpse into the dreams of each of the subjects.

A post on the Doodles section of Google said, “From toddlers to grandmothers, the women in San Francisco, Rio de Janeiro, Mexico City, Lagos, Moscow, Cairo, Berlin, London, Paris, Jakarta, Bangkok, New Delhi and Tokyo all sparkled with personality. Each new city brought more “One day I will”s, more signature dance moves, more hugs, more high-fives. The aspirations we heard were as varied as the women and girls who shared them, from the very personal—swim with pigs in the Bahamas—to the very global—give a voice to those who can’t speak—and everything in between. When it was done, we found that our own “One day I will…”s had grown bigger and richer, inspired by the women we had met.”

Google also featured British anthropologist Jane Goodall who said, “One day I will discuss the environment with Pope Francis.”

Nobel Peace Prize winner Malala Yousafzai and activist Muzoon Almellehan were also in the video where they said, “One day we will see every girl in school.”

We will like to wish all the women around the world a very Happy and hopeful International Women’s Day!
