A day after Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray launched a scathing on its closest ally Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) ahead of Nasik civic polls, the Sena has once again slammed Prime Minister Narendra Modi, mocking him of trying to become the “new God”.

In an editorial in its mouthpiece Saamana, the Sena said ”PM Narendra Modi is being praised as the incarnation of God by BJP leaders who are making such remarks at regular intervals.” The editorial also compared PM Modi to Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa who enjoys a crazy fan following in her state.

The editorial compared Naidu’s statement calling Narendra Modi as God’s gift for India with Congress leader Deokant Barua’s statement ‘India is Indira’ during Emergency days.

The Shiv Sena also came down heavily on the Centre for making it mandatory to show documentary on Modi’s government’s achievements before the screening of movies in all cinema halls. It slammed BJP leader M Venkaiah Naidu whose Urban Development Ministry has mandated the decision to show documentaries highlighting Narendra Modi’s government’s work. It said that the documentaries must focus on other national leaders too besides Modi.

The Sena also advised the BJP-led Union government of focusing on the country as 33 per cent area is facing drought-like situation. It said the government has been unsuccessful in providing them with relief so far.

“Is this really time to show what you have done, it shouldn’t bounce back like ‘Shining India ‘ campiagn,” the editorial cautioned BJP.

This is not the first time Sena has criticised the government. Despite being part of the ruling coalition with the BJP, the party has mostly remained at loggerheads with the BJP.
