Comedy outfit AIB is known to ruffle some feathers each time they come out with one of their videos. But more often than not, they’ve usually found favour with the masses, making those in power or sporting white collars feel a bit uncomfortable. But, it seems one of its members, Tanmay Bhat, took things a bit too far when he posted a video on Facebook titled ‘Sachin vs Lata Civil War’.

Tanmay superimposed faces of ace cricketer Sachin Tendulkar and musical legend Lata Mangeshkar to enact an argument on whether Virat Kohli is better than the Master Blaster. Known for his voice modulation skills, Tanmay’s mimicked both personalities superbly, and even brought in a bit of Vinode Kambli. In true AIB fashion, the roast doesn’t go easy on either person. At one point, taking a jab at Mangeshkar, he says: “Jon Snow also died, so you should also die”.

And such punches definitely didn’t sit well with many, including members of the film fraternity such as Riteish Deskhmukh and Celina Jaitly.

Tanmay had, though, tried to ward off any negative comments with the caption accompanying the Facebook post. He wrote: Sachin vs Lata Civil War (I make such nonsense on my Snapchat – follow me there – ID: Thetanmay) (Also I obvously love Lata and Sachin, just having some fun). But that didn’t really have much of a pacifying effect.

One Facebook user said: “Pls Mr Tanmay. Being a sport is different from truly insulting with clear intention. Request you to kindly hold on to your enthusiasm and think twice before you act on something so stupid. We do like AIB, but liking AIB more than our idols is next to impossible . So sorry we do not agree or appreciate your disrespect.”

It would be unfair to say that all reactions are negative. There are few who have gone along with the humour and found the video funny, but overall Tanmay seems to have the hit the wrong notes with this one.
