We kick off Monday Night Raw with Stephanie McMahon and Mick Foley coming out to the ring. They call out the entire Raw roster for what has been billed as the first episode of Monday Night Raw of the ‘New Era’, before Stephanie severely admonishes Roman Reigns for not bringing back the WWE Title to Monday Night Raw.

They then introduce the brand new WWE Universal Title, and say one man will be fighting Seth Rollins for it. That one man would be determined on tonight’s episode of Monday Night Raw, through two Fatal Fourways; the respective winners of which will face each other in the main event of the night to book a date against Rollins at SummerSlam.

The eight superstars selected for the two Fatal 4-way events included Sami Zayn, Sheamus, Chris Jericho, Cesaro, Roman Reigns, Rusev, Kevin Owens and Finn Baylor. Baylor, former NXT champion, got a rousing reception when his name was announced and he made it count in the end. Reigns later said he wished for Baylor to win the title at SummerSlam because ‘he deserved it’.

Raw kicked off in Pittsburgh with the new theme song (‘Enemies’ by Shinedown) and new place for the announcers to sit.
